composed "CONCERTO FOR JAZZ QUARTET" during the winter of 94 without
great expectations for it mainly due to its considerable length. It is comprised
of three parts (Latin, Balld, Up swing) of which the first two can be heard in
the present recording. It is written for soprano & tenor sax, acoustic &
electric piano, acoustic & electric bass and drums. The parts are connected
by bass & drum interludes giving the impression of a one movement piece. In
this first partial recording of my work the parts of the bass, saxophone and
some piano are - by choice more so than necessity - programmed by me (Real
time), while the piano improv parts are played by the incredible Giorgos
Kontrafouris. The drums were recorded live (no editing or overdubs) trying to maintain the feel and sound as natural as possible; Thanks Takis! I would also like to thank D.Bellos for the use of his great sound library an last but not least Gabriel for his fantastic drums and unique presence in general. |
